NPK Fertiliser

NPK Fertiliser

NPK Fertilisers are products that include one or more of these three minerals, which are especially important for plant growth. Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K).

Looking for soluble fertiliser with a specific or hard-to-find NPK ratio? See below for how to make your own NPK fertiliser at any ratio you want.

Granular & Powdered: These fertilisers are added directly to the soil near plants and don't require any mixing with water. Popular options include 44 Plus, Healthy Earth Organic, Optifert Blue, Crop King, and Banana Special. Neutrog offers a popular range of manure-based and specialised products for Roses, Orchids, Natives, Fruit, Azaleas, and more. The 20 kg bulk bag options provide exceptional value.

Water-Soluble: Available in liquid and powder forms. They are mixed in water and applied with a watering can or garden sprayer. Most options can be applied directly to the leaves as a foliar feed or applied to the soil through watering. Stand-out complete options with trace elements include: Liquid NPK, Diamond Special T & Peter’s Professional. Notable incomplete options include Potassium Nitrate, which is high in Nitrogen and Potassium, which are highly sought after. Glacial Milk is missing Nitrogen but has a massive range of naturally sourced volcanic minerals. Glacial milk can be used alone or is excellent for adding other NPK products to make a fantastic and powerful fertiliser.

Slow-Release: Feeds like Osmocote are available in 5- to 6-month and 12- to 14-month options for convenient, long-lasting feeding. Have the peace of mind that your plants remained fertilised for a whole year with just one application. The Low P option is excellent for natives, while the High K option is ideal for flowering and fruiting plants. How to make your own soluble NPK fertiliser with a specific ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium minerals.

Below is an example of how to make soluble fertiliser with an NPK ratio of 6-3-9 (Option 1) and 3-6-9 (Option 2)

If you're seeking a different NPK ratio, please contact us in the live chat, and we will let you know the quantities of each fertiliser you will need to make your preferred ratio.

NPK Ratio 6-3-9 (Higher nitrogen, good for growth & potassium demand)

Per 10 litres of water:

  • Calcium nitrate: 6 g
  • Potassium nitrate: 4 g
  • Mono-potassium phosphate (MKP): 1 g

What this gives (approx.)

  • Nitrogen (N): ~6
  • Phosphorus (P): ~3
  • Potassium (K): ~9

NPK Ratio 3-6-9 (Lower nitrogen, higher phosphorus)

Per 10 litres of water:

  • Calcium nitrate: 2 g
  • Potassium nitrate: 3 g
  • Mono-potassium phosphate (MKP): 3 g

What this gives (approx.)

  • Nitrogen (N): ~3
  • Phosphorus (P): ~6
  • Potassium (K): ~9

⚠️ Mixing order (important but simple)

  1. Fill the bucket with half the water
  2. Dissolve Calcium nitrate first
  3. Add Potassium nitrate
  4. Add MKP last
  5. Top up to full volume and stir

👉 Never mix concentrates together, dry or undissolved.
