What is water soluble fertiliser?

Water soluble fertiliser is designed to dissolve in water before being applied to plants. This allows nutrients to be delivered through watering cans, irrigation systems, fertigation equipment or, where the individual product permits, as a foliar application.

Water soluble fertilisers are widely used by home gardeners, nurseries, horticultural growers and hydroponic growers because nutrient concentrations can be adjusted to suit different plants and stages of growth.

Complete NPK fertilisers and individual nutrients

Our range includes both complete water soluble NPK fertilisers and individual soluble nutrients.

Complete formulas such as Campbells and Peters Professional fertilisers provide nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium together with other nutrients and trace elements, depending on the formulation.

Individual nutrients such as calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate and mono potassium phosphate (MKP) allow growers to supply particular nutrients or develop more specialised feeding programs.

Water soluble NPK fertiliser

Complete soluble NPK fertilisers are convenient when plants require a combination of major nutrients. Different formulations are available for general plant growth, flowering, fruiting, orchids and professional horticultural applications.

For a broader selection of granular and soluble NPK products, see our NPK Fertiliser collection.

Water soluble fertiliser for fertigation and hydroponics

Many fully soluble fertilisers can also be suitable for fertigation, irrigation and hydroponic growing systems. Solubility is particularly important in these systems because undissolved material can cause problems with irrigation equipment.

Product suitability, concentration and compatibility can vary considerably, so always follow the manufacturer's directions for the individual fertiliser.

Choosing a water soluble fertiliser

The best fertiliser depends on the crop, growing medium, water quality and nutrients required. General-purpose complete fertilisers are often the easiest choice for home gardeners, while individual nutrient products give professional and experienced growers greater control over their fertiliser program.
