Comparison between Extruded and Knitted Bird Netting:

🟩 Extruded Bird Netting

Structure: Made from plastic (usually polyethylene) extruded into a rigid mesh pattern.

Feel: Stiff and grid-like; holds shape better.

Durability: Medium. UV-stabilized versions last several years outdoors.

Best Use:

  • Covering garden beds
  • Protecting fruit trees or crops
  • Temporary enclosures or seasonal use

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Holds shape well
  • Easy to cut and install

Cons:

  • Brittle over time (especially if not UV-protected)
  • Can crack or break under stress or cold temperatures.

🟩 Knitted Bird Netting:

Structure: Made from interwoven strands of plastic, forming a soft, flexible mesh.

Feel: Softer and more pliable, like a fine fishing net.

Durability: High. Resists tearing and fraying; often UV-treated for longer outdoor life.

Best Use:

  • Long-term crop protection
  • Vineyard or orchard bird control
  • Draping over large areas

Pros:

  • Stronger and more flexible.
  • Doesn't crack or snap in cold weather.
  • Can be reused season after season.

Cons:

  • Significantly more expensive.
  • May snag on branches or structures.
