Wire Mesh

Shop wire mesh rolls for chicken runs, aviaries, garden fencing and vermin barriers. Choose from hexagonal chicken wire, welded mesh and fine vermin mesh, with different opening sizes, wire thicknesses, widths and roll lengths. Whether you are building an enclosure or repairing an existing fence, compare the specifications to find mesh suited to your project. Tie wire is also available for binding and joining tasks.

Which Wire Mesh Should You Choose?

  • Chicken wire mesh: Hexagonal wire netting for poultry runs, garden barriers and general enclosure projects. Choose the opening size and wire thickness for the intended use.
  • Welded wire mesh: Wire joined at its intersections to form square or rectangular openings. The range includes fine mesh and heavier options for enclosure and fencing projects.
  • Aviary mesh: Mesh selected for bird enclosures. Match the opening size and wire strength to the birds being housed rather than choosing by roll size alone.
  • Vermin mesh: Fine welded mesh for pest exclusion projects. Suitability depends on the pest, the mesh specifications and the finished barrier.
  • Tie wire: Binding wire for joining mesh and other fastening tasks. Choose fixings appropriate to the frame and the load they need to hold.

How to Compare Wire Mesh Rolls

  • Mesh opening: The size of the gaps between wires. For animal enclosures, consider both the animals you want to contain and the pests you want to exclude.
  • Wire thickness: Compare the measurement in millimetres. A smaller opening does not necessarily mean a thicker or stronger wire.
  • Roll width: Match this to the height or width of the area being covered to reduce cutting and unnecessary joins.
  • Roll length: Measure the complete project and allow extra material for overlaps, corners and attachment to the frame.
  • Material and finish: Check the individual product details for suitability in the intended environment.

Compare all of these specifications when assessing price. Two rolls of the same length can differ substantially in width, opening size and wire thickness.

Wire Mesh FAQs

Is chicken wire enough to protect a chicken run?

Containing chickens and excluding predators are different requirements. Do not assume that ordinary chicken wire provides adequate predator protection. Assess the mesh strength, opening size, frame, doors and ground-level protection together when planning the run.

Will fine wire mesh make an enclosure completely vermin-proof?

No mesh should be treated as a guarantee on its own. The opening must suit the pest you want to exclude, and gaps around joins, doors and the base can compromise the barrier. Check the product specifications and inspect the complete enclosure for possible entry points.
