Guide to Using Chicken Nesting Boxes: Provide your hens with a safe and comfortable place to lay eggs. An organized setup can ensure better egg production and hygiene.
1. Choosing the Right Nesting Box:
Material: Nesting boxes can be made of wood, plastic, or metal. Plastic and metal are easier to clean.
Size: Each box should be around 30 x 30 x 30 cm's to accommodate most chicken breeds.
Quantity: Provide at least one box per 3-4 hens to prevent crowding.
Design: Boxes should have a slight lip in the front to keep bedding and eggs inside.
2. Placement:
Height: Place the box about 30-45 centimetres off the ground to prevent hens from laying eggs on the floor.
Location: Place the enclosure in a dark and secluded area of the coop to encourage laying.
Accessibility: Make sure hens can easily enter and exit. Use a small ramp if needed.
