Choosing Chicken Wire Mesh

Choose chicken wire by comparing the roll width, mesh opening, wire thickness and length. These measurements help you select an option for your fence, chicken run or garden project. Check the individual product's specifications before ordering, as not every combination is available.

Roll Width and Length

Our range includes 900mm, 1200mm and 1800mm wide chicken wire mesh, with selected options supplied in 50 metre rolls. Measure the area you need to cover and allow for overlaps, joins and fastening to posts or frames.

Mesh Opening and Wire Thickness

Mesh opening refers to the size of the holes, while wire thickness describes the diameter of the wire itself. The range includes 12.5mm, 25mm and 50mm openings, depending on the product. Compare both measurements rather than choosing by hole size alone, and select an opening appropriate to the animals or area you want to enclose.

Poultry Fencing and Garden Projects

Chicken wire can be used for poultry fencing, dividing garden areas and general mesh repairs. For animal enclosures, consider the complete design, including the frame, fastenings, doors and ground edges, as well as the mesh itself.

Frequently Asked Questions?

Q. I want use some chicken mesh as a bottom floor of my bunny's cage but I worry it's so thin and too soft to step on?

A. This mesh can be put directly on the hard ground of the rabbits cage. However if the mesh is suspended above the floor to make a grate you would need to put down a timber mat for the rabbits to walk on as the mesh alone would be too harsh on their feet. You also might want to consider some thicker bird mesh instead as the chicken wire may sink in depending on the size of your cage.
