Brunnings Pumice+ is a hard, lightweight volcanic rock containing many tiny air bubbles that create a highly porous growing medium. It is an excellent soil conditioner for all plants and is particularly suited to cacti, succulents and other plants requiring improved drainage and porosity.
The porous structure of Pumice+ helps create better air porosity and water retention while allowing microbial life to thrive. It also helps maintain soil structure and provides a neutral pH along with a variety of trace minerals.

How to Use Brunnings Pumice+
Shake the bag well before use to evenly distribute the different particle sizes. Tear or cut the bag open along the marked dotted line and reseal after use.
Soil Conditioning
For general drainage improvement: Mix 15% Pumice+ with growing media.
For plants requiring greater drainage: For cacti, succulents, monsteras, calatheas and other plants requiring much better drainage, mix 25–50% Pumice+ into the growing media, depending on the quality of the media.
For cuttings that rot easily: Use pure Pumice+.
Where amending the soil is not practical: Fill the planting hole with Pumice+ so the roots are surrounded by the granules, then water to charge the Pumice+. Fertilise plants as required.
Using Pumice+ as a Fungus Gnat Barrier
The fine abrasive granules of Pumice+ can create a natural physical barrier that prevents fungus gnats from entering or exiting the growing media, helping to break their breeding cycle.
- Pour and spread Pumice+ over the surface of the potting soil to a depth of at least 3cm.
- Ensure the entire surface of the pot is covered.
- Water gently and evenly to settle the granules.
- Maintain a depth of 3cm for an ongoing effective barrier.
