Vetafarm Parrot Pellets Maintenance Diet (Pack Size: 350g, 2Kg, 10Kg)
Maintenance Pellets are designed to provide all the nutrition necessary for the long and healthy life of aviary and pet parrots. The elements needed for full feather production, muscle activity and gut function are all included in this diet. Addition of other nutrients and supplements is not necessary.
Recommended for: Australian and Asiatic Parrots
Can use with: Breeder Pellets, Maintenance Pellets should be fed during the regular season with birds being changed over to Breeder Pellets around 6 weeks before breeding season and being fed on this diet up until chicks fledge.
Feeding: Maintenance Pellets have been designed to provide a total feed for most parrots. It should be fed as a total diet but can also be used as a supplement to seed diets. Fruits and vegetables may be given as behavioural enrichment for the birds.
Birds may need to be converted to a pellet diet. There are several ways to convert a bird to pellets:
1. Mix the pellets with seed in a bowl (50:50) add enough hot water to soften the pellet and make it sticky – squeeze the mix into a rissole and place in an empty seed bowl. Feed this mix for several days and then begin to reduce the proportion of seed. After about 10 days you can add dry pellets to the bowl. Observe all birds closely during the conversion process.
2. Mix the pellets with any fruit and vegetable mix or with soaked seed. Use this mix for 5 – 10 days and then reduce the fruit/veges/soaks until the birds are consuming a total pellet diet. Once the birds are eating the pellet diet, soft foods can be re-introduced as part of their diet.
Feeding: make freely available as the primary food source. Vetafarm pellets are designed to provide complete nutrition when fed at a rate of 80% or more of the total diet.
Note: Breeding Parrots will require additional nutrition or a switch to Vetafarm Breeder pellets during breeding season due to increased nutritional demand.
