Formula One is a low lactose emergency milk formula that can be used for a range of different species including puppies, kittens, lambs, piglets, calves foals, cria, marsupials and zoo animals.

Use Formula One for orphaned animals or when mother’s milk is limited. Success in hand-rearing greatly improves if animals receive colostrum within 24 hours of birth. Newborns that don’t get colostrum from the mother can be fed Impact Colostrum Supplement.

Key Features:

  • Formulated from low-lactose ingredients, with an improved nutritional profile than cow’s milk products.
  • High in whey proteins for improved digestibility.
  • Enhanced levels of unsaturated fats including omega-3 & 6 fatty acids.
  • Elevated taurine content – an essential nutrient for the development of carnivores.

Making up Milk - Normal Strength:

To make 150mL of milk: Mix 20g of powder (approx. 1 level scoop provided) with 130ml of warm water.

To make 1Litre of milk: Mix 125g of powder (approx. 6 level scoops provided) with 850ml of warm water.

Add half the water to the powder first and mix to a paste. Then add the remaining water and mix thoroughly. Pre-boil the water to ensure that it is sterilised. If the water is too hot it can cause the milk to curdle. If it is too cold then it will be difficult to disperse the powder. An electric whisk can be used for mixing. Milk can be stored in the fridge for a day or can be frozen for up to two weeks. It is useful to make up milk in larger quantities and store it frozen in small portions (eg ice cube trays), so that the required daily feed volumes can be easily thawed out. Once thawed out, discard any unused milk, and wash feeding utensils thoroughly.

Feeding:

Warm milk to about 35°C. Feed from a bottle with teat, a range of Wombaroo Teats are available for smaller mammals. Lamb and calf teats are available from most fodder stores for larger animals. In emergency cases tube feeding may be required. Initially feed half strength (20g plus 260mL of warm pre-boiled water) increasing to normal strength once milk is tolerated. For improved weight gain, slowly increase the milk to one and a half times normal strength (20g plus 90mL of warm pre-boiled water). To avoid dehydration during periods of hot weather give young a drink of pre-boiled water between feeds. Always offer drinking water once animals become mobile. Consult your veterinarian or breeder for particular advice about caring for your breed of animal.

Growth:

Weigh young animals regular to verify weight gains and to determine feed volumes. Ensure that weight gain is in line with that which would be expected for the species in care. Consult a veterinarian if satisfactory weight gain is not being achieved. Formula One is not designed as a specific milk replacer for any particular species, so better growth rates may be achieved by using a species specific Wombaroo Milk Replacer.
