Mulch

Mulch

Mulch is a popular addition to garden beds to help suppress and prevent weeds, add nutrients and conserve moisture in potting mix or soil. Some types of mulch can also provide a barrier or discourage insects and pests. Organic mulches like lucerne, sugar cane & eucalyptus enrich the soil with organic matter, encouraging microbial and worm activity for better soil aeration and fertility. It can also improve the aesthetics by providing a consistently coloured landscape with a more natural look.

Adding Nutrients: Lucerne is one of the best mulches for adding nutrients to the soil.  It is naturally high in nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, and trace minerals, helping to feed plants as it breaks down.

Avoiding Insects: Mulches like Pine Bark, while not particularly insect resistant, drain well and are less attractive to pests that thrive in moist conditions. Gravel or stone is even less attractive to insects.
