HUGE 35L BAGS - 100% Sheep manure with nothing added, straight from country farms.

Don't waste your money on soil and filler.

Most manure products on the market are made mostly from soil and cheap fillers which are then mixed with only a small percentage of manure. Hence it is difficult to tell the difference between this kind of sheep manure and just plain old soil.

Our Sheep Manure is 100% straight sheep manure, straight from a farm, and is unprocessed and is ready to use (See disclaimer below)

Using sheep manure as fertilizer can be highly beneficial for growing various plants due to its rich nutrient content. However, proper handling and application are essential to maximize its benefits and avoid potential issues. Here's a guide to using sheep manure for different plants:

Guide to Using Sheep Manure to grow different plants:

1. Benefits of Sheep Manure

  • Nutrient-rich: Contains nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and micronutrients.

  • Improves soil structure: Enhances soil aeration, water retention, and drainage.

  • Eco-friendly: A sustainable and organic fertilizer option.

  • Low odor: Compared to other manures, sheep manure has a milder smell.

2. Preparing Sheep Manure

Sheep manure is "cold" manure, meaning it has a lower risk of burning plants compared to "hot" manures like chicken or horse manure. However, it’s still best to compost or age it before use.

Composting Sheep Manure

  1. Collect manure: Gather fresh sheep manure and bedding (straw, hay, etc.).

  2. Mix with carbon-rich materials: Combine with leaves, straw, or wood chips to balance the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio.

  3. Turn the pile: Regularly aerate the compost pile to speed up decomposition and prevent odors.

  4. Wait: Allow the manure to compost for 3-6 months until it’s dark, crumbly, and earthy-smelling.

Aging Sheep Manure

If composting isn’t an option, let the manure age for at least 2-3 months before use to reduce the risk of pathogens and weed seeds.

3. Applying Sheep Manure

General Application Rates

  • Composted manure: Apply 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) and mix into the top 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) of soil.

  • Aged manure: Use sparingly, as it may still be potent. Apply a thin layer (½ inch or 1 cm) and mix into the soil.

For Specific Plants

  • Vegetables: Sheep manure is excellent for heavy feeders like tomatoes, peppers, squash, and cucumbers. Apply composted manure before planting and side-dress during the growing season.

  • Fruit Trees: Apply composted manure around the base of trees in early spring or fall, keeping it away from the trunk.

  • Flowers: Use composted manure as a top dressing or mix into the soil before planting annuals or perennials.

  • Lawns: Spread a thin layer of composted manure over the lawn and rake it in to improve soil health.

  • Root Crops: Use sparingly for carrots, potatoes, and beets, as excess nitrogen can cause excessive leafy growth at the expense of roots.

4. Precautions

  • Avoid fresh manure: Fresh sheep manure can burn plants and introduce pathogens or weed seeds.

  • Wash produce: Always wash fruits and vegetables grown with manure to remove any potential contaminants.

  • Test soil: Over-application can lead to nutrient imbalances. Conduct a soil test to determine the right amount of manure needed.

5. Storage

  • Store sheep manure in a covered area to prevent nutrient leaching from rain.

  • Keep it dry to reduce odor and pests.

By following these guidelines, you can effectively use sheep manure to grow healthy, thriving plants while improving your soil's fertility and structure.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. I live quite far from Sydney, are you able to deliver to my area?

A. We deliver virtually Australia wide, so it's very likely that we can. Feel free to order via the website. To get a freight quote before ordering, add some items to your shopping cart and then click the "freight calculator" tab and enter your state and postcode.

Q. How much sheep manure should I apply per square metre for a vegetable patch? Is there a problem if you apply too much?

A. When preparing a new garden bed about 0.5 to 1 bag per square metre should be ok for most vegetable gardens and be sure to mix it in well with the existing soil so it's not too concentrated. Putting too much manure may stress some plants especially when the weather is warm. When applying to gardens with existing crops about half a bag per square metre should be ok.
