Searles Zeolite is a natural mineral with a high CEC (Carbon exchange capacity) which provides excellent storage for essential nutrients, such as ammonium nitrogen and potassium. By providing excellent nutrient storage, zeolite enhances fertiliser use in the soil by helping trap and store these important nutrients. Zeolite improves soil health, increases nutrient & water storage in soils and composts, improving plant growth and health.

Directions for use: 1 CUP (250ml) HOLDS APPROX. 250g ZEOLITE

GARDENS FRUIT, FLOWERS & VEGETABLES: Apply 1kg zeolite per square metre. Incorporate into the soil to a depth of 15cm.

COMPOSTS: Apply zeolite in layers by mixing compost heaps. Zeolite helps to trap and store ammonium nitrogen, reducing odour and improving quality.

POTTING MIXES: Improve potting mix performance by adding zeolite at approximately 2.5% of mix volume. For a 30 Litre bag of potting soil, add 750g zeolite.

LAWNS & TURF: Spread zeolite evenly over lawns at 250g per square metre.

NOTE: Zeolite is best applied when preparing gardens so that it can be incorporated into the soil. Annual applications at any time of the year will help to improve soil and plant health.

Main Features:

  • Improves nutrient delivery.
  • BFA REGISTERED for use in Organic Growing.
  • 100% natural.
  • Improves CEC (cation exchange capacity) of mixes and garden soils.
  • Retains fertiliser longer.
  • Promotes better plant growth by improving fertiliser utilisation.
  • Traps and slow-release valuable nutrients when and as plants need them.
  • Improves the cation exchange capacity of soil, resulting in less fertiliser requirements.
  • This reduces nutrient loss through leaching, resulting in less environmental damage.
  • The retained valuable nitrogen & potassium improve the quality of the growing mix, increasing plant health & growth.
  • Improves water storage and infiltration.
  • Improved plant vigour and colour.
  • Condition the soil.

The high CEC makes zeolite particularly valuable in holding and slow-releasing valuable nutrients to plants, mainly ammonium nitrogen (NH4+), potassium (K+), magnesium (Mg+), calcium (Ca+) and trace elements.
Zeolites are complex hydrated aluminosilicates, which can occur as a natural mineral or may be synthesised artificially. There are over 40 species of natural zeolites.
Zeolites have very open frameworks characterised by networks of channels or pores. This gives the mineral a very large surface area. The structure has a net negative charge and, with its large surface area, has a high cation exchange capacity (CEC).
This high CEC enables zeolite to absorb and freely exchange positively charged cations, such as Ammonium Nitrogen and Potassium.

The addition of zeolite into potting mixes regulates the uptake of nutrients by absorbing excess nutrients from the growing mix and storing them within the structure of zeolite. When the particular nutrient becomes deficient in the solution around the root zone, it is released from the zeolite and made available to the plant. This greatly reduces the leaching of excess nutrients and ensures more efficient use of applied fertiliser. In general, plant health and colour are improved with the use of zeolite, and the life of applied nutrients in the mix is extended.

Zeolite is best applied when preparing gardens to be incorporated into the soil. Annual applications at any time of the year will help improve soil and plant health.

Available size: 5kg.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. What size or grade is this zeolite?

A. According to the manufacturer, this product is 0.5 to 2mm in grade/size.

Q. Is Searles zeolite suitable for outdoor ponds?

A. From the manufacturer," The zeolite we produce is for garden purposes: it has no reference to being used in outdoor ponds, so I would hesitate to offer it for this.  I have attached an SDS sheet as well, so you can read through it.  I can not recommend any of our products that have not been registered for any uses not stated on the packaging" (see download tab for SDS).

Please consider Horticultural Zeolite (Organic) for this purpose instead. See below.
