Lucerne Hay Bales (4 bales or more) Full Bale - For smaller quantities, see the other item below.

Lucerne hay is notably vibrant in colour and has delicate, soft leaves, making it a great choice compared to many other lucerne types for feeding animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, horses, and livestock. However, due to its high calcium and protein levels, it’s best offered to rabbits only occasionally as a treat. For everyday feeding, timothy or oaten hay is usually preferred, with lucerne hay used sparingly as a supplement.

If the lucerne hay becomes spoiled or leftover, it doesn’t have to go to waste—it can be repurposed as mulch or organic fertiliser in the garden. It’s rich in nitrogen, which benefits soil health, and applying it as a mulch helps retain moisture in the soil, reducing the risk of it drying out too quickly.

Some people also use lucerne as bedding for their chickens or other poultry. Once they are done using it as bedding, they then re-use it in the garden as a mulch or even as an excellent fertiliser.
