Organic Soy Free Coarse Layer Mix. Organic Chicken Feed. (Certified to AS600 by Australian Certified Organic 10607)
Organic Coarse Soy Free Layer by Country Heritage Feeds has the same whole grain mix as the standard Coarse Layer, but without the inclusion of any soy protein meals. Typical ingredients may include wheat, sorghum, barley, triticale, pearl millet, sunflower seed, mung beans and corn. These are mixed without any milling, giving the feed a “whole grain” appearance. The diverse mix of colours gives it a look similar to muesli, making it very appealing to the chicken and owner alike.
Application - The Organic Coarse Soy Free Layer is designed solely for laying birds in the backyard environment and offers the complete daily requirement of cereals needed for healthy laying hens. Incorporated into the whole grain blend is a “protein pellet” which contains essential vitamins and minerals, protein meals and trace minerals. This ensures the integrity of the feed is maintained and avoids the separation issues that can occur if adding these ingredients individually.
Feed Directions - The Organic Chicken Feed, Coarse Soy Free Layer is best fed once the birds have reached the point of lay, (approx. 18 to 20 weeks) although blending with the Organic Chick Starter Grower from 16 weeks is advisable to assist with the transition.
Typical feed consumption is between 130g – 150g per head per day and feed is best made accessible through a specially designed self-feeder. To obtain minimal wastage, ensure your feeder is elevated so the birds can comfortably access the feed, but high enough so they cannot scratch it out onto the ground with their feet. Always ensure that birds have access to plenty of clean potable drinking water.
Questions & Answers
Q. Is this poultry mix suitable for sprouting?
A. Its generally not recommended to sprout this mix because it contains pellets and other ingredients that may be adversely affected by water. It might be possible to do this by separating the whole grains alone for sprouting but even this might not work since the grains have also had oil and vitamins added to them. For organic sprouting it's best to consider the Organic 4 Grain Mix 25 kg.
Q. Have you got any comprehensive ingredient lists for your soy free poultry feed formulas?
A. Unfortunately, complete ingredient lists are not available for any of the organic feeds by Country Heritage Feeds. These recipes are a closely guarded secret of the manufacturer. This helps prevent others from copying their great feeds.
