Calgrit Bird Supplement 5 kg (Turtle Grit).

Calgrit is a natural mineral grit derived from calcium carbonate, offering a superior alternative to shell grit. It provides more calcium (essential for hard eggshells) and additional essential minerals than regular grit. Calgrit is ideal for laying hens to help them cope with eggshell production & to aid in bird digestion. Also suitable for other birds & freshwater turtles as a tank additive.

Calgrit for Birds:

Calgrit is a type of grit, typically made from crushed calcium carbonate, that is often provided to birds as a dietary supplement. It aids digestion, particularly in birds that lack teeth. Several types of birds eat calgrit, including:

  1. Poultry: Chickens, ducks, turkeys, and other fowl often consume calgrit to aid digestion, particularly for breaking down seeds and grains in their gizzards.

  2. Pigeons and Doves: These birds also benefit from grit to help grind down food in their gizzards, as they lack teeth to chew.

  3. Game Birds: Quail, pheasants, and other game birds often eat grit to help with digestion.

  4. Parrots: Some pet bird species, like parrots, may also consume calcium-based grit, though it's not always necessary if they have a balanced diet.

  5. Wild Birds: Some wild birds, especially ground feeders, will pick up grit to aid in digestion, although it's more common in species that eat seeds, fruits, or grains.

Typically, birds get the grit they need naturally from their environment, but if they’re kept in captivity or on a specific diet, it may be necessary to provide grit as a supplement.

Calgrit for freshwater turtles:

Calgrit is a granular-shaped limestone that adds Calcium and raises Carbonate Hardness (KH) in your water to help maintain your pH in the 7.5-8.0 range. 2 kg of Calgrit will treat a 2-foot (50-litre) tank. There is no need to rinse this product before putting it into your tank. Your tank will appear cloudy for 24-48 hours, and your turtles are safe to remain in the water during this time.

Disclaimer: Only the 20 kg size is sent in its original packaging. The other sizes are repackaged and provided in clear plastic bags. If multiple 5kg bags are purchased, they can be combined into a single bag.

Further Reading on Calgrit:

Pulverised calcium carbonate, also known as Calgrit, is an off-white (sometimes grey) limestone grit predominantly finer than 3.2 mm and coarser than 2mm. Calgrit is produced from Limestone as quarried at Warwick and is processed under our quality assurance program, resulting in consistent chemical and physical properties that produce predictable and repeatable product performance for our customers. Calgrit is commonly used in the poultry industry as an excellent source of calcium. The following typical properties may help you determine the suitability of the product for your application.
