Ducks for Sale: Ducklings

Ducks for Sale: Ducklings

Baby ducks or ducklings are popular and in-demand poultry pets. Breeds available include Pekin and Muscovy. Duck chicks are only occasionally available, so please be sure to call and check availability before arriving in-store. Baby ducks will need heating for the first few weeks of life. A heat lamp or brooder can be used for this purpose. Ducks can be a bit messy, so they are more suited to someone with a large, green backyard. If this doesn’t suit you, please consider chicken chicks instead.

Pekin Ducks: A domesticated, mallard-derived breed originally from China. The American Pekin was developed in the USA and is the most common type of Pekin in Australia. As ducklings, they are yellow and fluffy, and as adults, they have white feathers. They have orange bills and legs. In temperament, they are active, noisy, and friendly. Pekins cannot fly, love swimming, and need access to water. They lay about 150 to 200 white eggs per year.

Muscovy Ducks: Are not derived from Mallards but are a unique species originating from Central and South America. As ducklings, they are often yellow with darker patches, and as adults, they show wide colour variation. They have pinkish bills and darker legs. In temperament, they are quiet, calm, and more independent. Muscovies can fly well, especially the females. They enjoy water but are not obsessed with it. They lay 60 to 120 white or cream eggs per year.
