Garden Stakes

Garden Stakes

We offer a wide range of garden stakes ideal for securing tomatoes and other plants. For tomatoes, we recommend stakes that are 1.8m or higher. Popular options include hardwood, plastic-coated, and bamboo stakes. See below for the pros and cons of each type.

1. Hardwood Stakes:

Pros:
– Can support heavy tomato plants and last multiple seasons if stored well.

– Rough texture helps hold twine or plant ties in place.

– If kept dry and out of the elements off-season, they last a while.

Cons:
- than bamboo or plastic-coated ones.

- rot over time, especially if in contact with damp soil continually.

Best for: Heavy indeterminate tomato varieties that need strong support.

2. Plastic-Coated Stakes (Usually Metal Core):

Pros:
– Often made with a steel core for strength and coated in plastic to prevent rusting.

– Won’t rot, mold, or splinter.

– Easier to clean and reuse.

– Some come with bumps/ridges to help secure plant ties.

Cons:
- than wood or bamboo.

– Some ties might slide if not secured well.

– Not ideal for a fully eco-friendly garden.

Best for: Long-term use, heavy tomato plants, or if you want a maintenance-free option.

3. Bamboo Stakes:

Pros:
- Easy to handle.

– Eco-friendly option.

– Great for large-scale staking on a budget.

Cons:
- under pressure, especially with large indeterminate tomatoes or in strong wind.

- after one or two seasons.

– Ties might slip unless knotted well.

Best for: Smaller determinate tomato varieties or container-grown plants in sheltered spots.
