NOTE: This product may be at times be labelled greenhouse grade or technical grade but they are for all intensive purposes the same thing.

A fully soluble fertiliser containing nitrogen and potassium recommended for vegetables, fruits, flowers, turf, vines and ornamentals grown in soil and soilless culture.

HOT TIP: Ideal as a stump remover! See below for more information on how to use potassium nitrate to remove tree strumps.

Advantages:

Campbells Potassium Nitrate, Greenhouse Grade is a fully water-soluble, chloride-free fertiliser containing two essential elements for crop development providing immediately available nitrogen and potassium.

Potassium Nitrate is the most readily available fertiliser form of potassium and nitrogen available. The nitrate-nitrogen improves the uptake of potassium to the plant.

Specifications:

13.7% Nitrogen and 38.4% Potassium.

Application:

Campbells Potassium Nitrate; Greenhouse Grade is suitable for application via irrigation systems (fertigation) and for foliar application. It dissolves rapidly and completely and remains in solution ready for root adsorption or is taken in via leaf surfaces.

Timing of applications are suitable at any time during the season, however potassium nitrate has a special fit in the later stages of crop development, where demand for potassium is greatest.

Campbells Diamond Potassium Nitrate Greenhouse Grade is particularly important for:

  • Improving yields.
  • Fruit and vegetable size, sugar and colour development.
  • Flower development of fruit trees and ornamentals.

Campbells Diamond Potassium Nitrate Greenhouse Grade:

  • Is not affected by temperature, so nutrients are still available when conditions are cold and wet.
  • Is not acidifying to the soil.
  • Cannot be lost to the atmosphere like urea or ammonium-based fertilisers.

Rates:

General fertigation rates for horticultural crops are between 25-70 kg/ha. When applying potassium nitrate through the irrigation system more frequently and smaller applications guarantee the nutrients are supplied to the plants without being lost due to leaching or excessive rainfall. Foliar applications at a concentration of 1-2%. As with any fertiliser program, it is best to seek advice from your Campbells Potassium Nitrate distributor or your local agronomist.

Using Potassium Nitrate to remove a tree strump (See dislclaimer at bottom before reading)

  • First, use a wide (at least 2.5cm) drill bit to drill several vertical holes into the top of the old stump.
  • Then, use the same drill bit to make several 45 degree angle holes into the side of the stump. These holes should intersect with the vertical holes you drilled into the top of the stump.
  • Now pour your potassium nitrate into the holes you drilled at the top of the stump.
  • Pour water into the holes, making sure not to wash out the potassium nitrate granules you packed into the holes.
  • The 45 degree angle holes will function as vents for the potassium nitrate to gas off, as well as help further saturate the wood with the chemical solution.
  • Cover the top of the stump with soil and mulch, and sprinkle more water on top. This will ensure that the potassium nitrate is easily absorbed by the wood.
  • This method takes approximately four to six weeks for the stump to turn soft and spongy. At that point, you should be able to dig out the remains of the stump with a shovel.
